About Us

catacombesancallisto.rome.it is an independent visitor guide to the Catacombs of San Callisto on Rome's Appian Way. We built it because planning this specific visit is harder than it should be: the site closes on an unusual day (Wednesday), takes a midday break, sits in a poorly connected corner of Rome, and can only be visited with a guide — details that scattered travel pages routinely get wrong.

What we are — and what we are not

We are not the official website of the catacombs and we do not represent the Pontificia Commissione di Archeologia Sacra or the Salesian community that manages the site. The official website is catacombesancallisto.it. We are an editorial project: we collect, verify and organise practical information so you can decide, book and arrive without surprises.

How we verify facts

  • Opening hours, door prices and visit rules are taken from the official website and re-checked periodically. Where a figure can change, we say so and name the source.
  • Tour prices, ratings and availability come from Tiqets, an authorised online ticketing platform, via its public catalogue data.
  • Historical facts follow the published record of Christian archaeology — from Giovanni Battista de Rossi's excavations to current scholarship. When something is tradition rather than established fact, we label it as such.

How this site makes money

Booking links on this site point to Tiqets and include our partner code. If you book through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never changes the price you pay, and it does not change what we write: where the cheapest sensible option is buying a €10 ticket at the door, we say exactly that.
